Today, the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor rejected the idea of changing the borders of the countries of the former SFRY and stressed that he supports the EU enlargement to the Western Balkans.

Pahor told a news conference that he did not know about the non-paper and did not discuss it with Prime Minister Janez Jansa.

"I defend the thesis that it would be best for the EU to decide to include all the Western Balkan countries in the Union," Pahor said. He assessed that EU enlargement is a matter of time, not just political will.

"The slow pace of enlargement is melting confidence in the European perspective in these countries, and the consequences could be the strengthening of nationalism and increasing the influence of third countries," Pahor was quoted as saying by the Slovenian portal 24ur. He stressed that enlargement would prevent the emergence of dangerous ideas for changing the borders, which, as he stressed, he strongly opposes.

As President of the Republic, I have visited BiH seven times. During the last visit, neither before nor after, I was not acquainted with any unofficial documents. "I strongly oppose the idea of a final break-up of Yugoslavia and a change of borders," he said.

According to him, a peaceful process of changing the borders of the Western Balkans is not possible.

"The rapid process of integration of the Western Balkan countries into Euro-Atlantic organizations will strengthen the principle of the territorial integrity of the countries and the security and stability of the whole of Europe," Pahor said. "These are very sensitive issues," he warned.
