The Basic Criminal Court in Skopje today handed down the verdicts in the case "Treasury", a case that refers to misuse of funds from the state budget for procurement of electronic communications equipment for the needs of the Fifth Directorate at UBK and training for its use by a company from Velika Britain. The court today found the four defendants guilty.

Former UBK director Saso Mijalkov as the first defendant in the case was sentenced to a single sentence of 8 years in prison, while his former chief of staff Toni Jakimovski was sentenced to 5 years in prison, and former Deputy Interior Minister Nebojsa Stajkovic to 5 years in prison, and the former Chief of the Fifth Directorate in the Ministry of Interior Goran Grujevski was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison. The three are charged with abuse of office and authority, and Toni Jakimovski for aiding.

The case was initiated in 2017 by the then Special Public Prosecutor's Office due to reasonable suspicion that the accused civil servants in UBK and MIA made direct procurement of electronic communication equipment for the needs of the Fifth Directorate at UBK instead of GAMA from Great Britain, as the most economical way, agreed the procurement to be performed through another company - intermediary Finzi DOOEL Skopje, to the detriment of the budget of RSM.

According to the indictment, over 860 thousand euros were misused in this case.

- The defendant Sasho Mijalkov, together with the other defendants deliberately committed the criminal acts whereby the agreements were concluded with the sole purpose of gaining benefit in favor of FINZI DOOEL Skopjesaid Judge Bektovic.

The court ordered all four defendants in solidarity to compensate the damage done to the state budget.

At the same time, with the verdict, funds in the amount of 10.819.959 denars of the company Finzi were confiscated.

An appeal against the judgment is allowed within 15 days to the higher Court of Appeals.
