A patient caused a fire in the Coyote Department at a hospital in Ruse, Bulgarian electronic media reported.

According to the MIA correspondent from Sofia, the patient was connected to a double source of oxygen, but she took off the mask from her face and started looking for an object with a lighter that fell under her bed that evening. The proximity of the fire to oxygen ignited the mask and caused a fire.

Only due to the quick and appropriate reaction of the duty team, the fire was quickly localized in the Covid Department at Ruse Hospital. The timely reaction was helped by the patient herself, who immediately gave a signal through the alarm system in the hospital.

Several beds, walls and oxygen appliances in the hospital room were set on fire. The four patients were not endangered and they were immediately transferred to other rooms.

The management of the hospital in Ruse is considering issuing an order according to which patients should not be allowed to carry flammable devices when entering a medical institution.
