Water is very important for maintaining our health. Adequate fluid intake helps us improve digestion, speed up metabolism and regulate body temperature, the Cleveland Clinic states.

Dehydration happens when we don't drink enough water or when we lose water quickly through, for example, sweating, vomiting or diarrhea (diarrhoea). Certain medications such as diuretics (water tablets) can lead to increased urination and therefore dehydration.

But how to recognize that the body lacks water? Although the symptoms are not always very noticeable, the lack of water can still be noticed.

Signs that your body is lacking water include:

- headache
- confusion
- fatigue
- dizziness
– weakness or dizziness
- dry mouth
– rapid heartbeats
- low blood pressure
- loss of appetite
– increased desire for sugar
- redness of the skin
– swollen legs
– muscle spasms
- intolerance to heat or cold
- constipation
– dark colored urine.
