An open letter to the Prime Ministers of S. Macedonia and Bulgaria

Cyril Lazarus
Kiril Lazarov

Distinguished Prime Ministers of the Governments of Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia, Mr. Kiril Petkov and Mr. Dimitar Kovachevski,

Through this open letter, on my own behalf as President of the Macedonian-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and on behalf of all those who participate in it, I would like to express my satisfaction with the announced meeting which has the opportunity to be historic if both sides look to the future.

You have the respect and support of the whole chamber to approach the essential problems that afflict both societies and to find solutions that will bring progress, future, jobs, economy and connection to both peoples.

You have a historic duty to all those who live today and will continue to live tomorrow, or after 10, 30 or 50 years, because today you are writing the future and the new history, a history in which it will be written that you two leaders have found a solution in which there will be new highways, new border crossings, in which the railway transversal will function, we will have a direct flight Skopje-Sofia, and a solution in which you will define a future that will discuss how many of our dear neighbors from Bulgaria will come to Ohrid or Mavrovo, and how many Macedonians will go to Bansko or Sunny Beach. Create a future that will be talked about with strong emotions, happiness and love for both nations, for the well-being of our children. Create energy for our peoples to respect, greet and embrace wherever they meet. Aren't we fraternal nations with a common past and an even more common future? Let's talk about gas pipelines, highways, wind farms, hydropower plants, photovoltaics, to unite our peoples in agriculture, tourism, defense and education.

We have so much in common, and so little difference, we can do so much more in economics and trade.

Sow the seeds of friendship instead of hatred, we owe it to our children and generations.

Stop the migration desolation that is happening to us in both countries and agree to stay here and live next to each other in harmony, instead of somewhere far away, to be Macedonians and Bulgarians in Macedonia and Bulgaria, instead of foreigners in England and Germany. Our economies and trade have enormous potential for our capital and workers to stay here. Everything else is a risk for our countries because we live in the most turbulent times that bring many uncertainties and dangers expressed through the great energy, pandemic and economic crisis.

You come from business, so do I, we know what bureaucracy, corruption, blockades, obstacles are and you know what you need to do to eliminate it all. In light of today's meeting and the common future, you have our full support. A lot of work awaits you, but the same goal! Take steps that will bring us closer, and we as nations will know how to respect that!

"Be the ones who will write the new economic history and who will be talked about for a long time from today onwards," the letter reads.
