Was the waste from the large landfill where the megapark is being built cleaned or buried?

Was the biggest landfill in Skopje where the megapark between Lepenec and the treatment plant in Volkovo is being built, and was it cleaned? If it was cleaned, where was the waste deposited? Why were the laws and procedures deliberately violated for such an important project and was the waste really buried? Is it true that the legal entity that participated in the landfill cleanup activities did not possess a license and permit for waste collection and transportation issued by the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning?

These are some of the questions at today's session The Council of the City of Skopje dedicated to counseling questions asked by the counselor Gordan Shutarov from SDSM and the coalition to the mayor and other competent institutions, after, as he said, information spread to the public that the waste was not deposited but buried deep underground, and that State Inspectorate for Environment during extraordinary inspections, he found many omissions. One of them is that, as the advisor emphasized, the project was started without any documents.

Shutarov explained that for the irregularities found during the extraordinary inspections, the DIŽS issued a decision on September 9, which obliges the City of Skopje to submit a report on the intention to implement the project to the Ministry of the Environment within 30 days from the receipt of the decision. The Inspectorate will initiate misdemeanor proceedings in accordance with the Law on Waste Management for other irregularities found among the immediate participants in the clearing of the illegal landfill.

He requested that all competent institutions investigate this case and submit all contracts for the execution of this project, including the report on the disposal of cleaned waste, to see if the soil, where the megapark is being built, is contaminated.

The mayor, Danela Arsovska, denied that this was true and emphasized that there was waste at a height of 15 to 20 meters, which was impossible to bury.

- It is normal that it has been properly deposited and you will receive that answer. However, the moments when you talk about contamination are much more important. For the past 4 years, did the citizens there live better with a wild dump? So you have nurtured a wild dump for 4 years. You have been filling a wild landfill for 4 years. Did the citizens live on contaminated soil a year ago or do they live now? Every month, that landfill was set on fire five times, you nurtured 50 square meters of wild landfill for four years and now someone has the nerve to come out and ask why there will be a megapark there? People are happy, you can examine the soil and you will see that it is no more or less polluted than those four years when you allowed waste to be deposited there - accused Arsovska in response to the question.

At the same time, the mayor did not answer precisely whether the reports will be submitted on whether and where the waste was deposited and in what quantity, considering the fact that information is circulating in the public that only eight trucks with waste were taken out of the landfill as big as 11 football fields.
