American actor and producer Michael Kenneth Williams was one of the most prized and famous talents of his generation. The actor was found dead in his apartment in New York on September 6, and now the cause of his death has been announced, reports "BBC".

The actor (54) died from an overdose with a combination of heroin, cocaine, fentanyl and p-florofentanil, confirmed the chief pathologist of New York. The Office of the Chief Pathologist in New York said it had been determined that the actor had unfortunately died of an accidental overdose. Williams was unconscious when his nephew found him in the apartment on September 6.

The actor has spoken openly about his drug problems in the past. On one occasion, he revealed that while starring in The Wire, he used drugs "in scary places, with scary people." However, he said he had not taken "anything stronger" than cocaine and marijuana.

"I was playing with fire. "It was only a matter of time before I was caught and ended up on the cover of a tabloid, in prison, or, at worst, dead," he said in 2012.
