US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said today that the conflict in Ukraine can still be avoided despite the fact that Russian President Vladimir Putin gathered more than 100.000 troops along their common border.
Conflict is not inevitable. "There is still time and space for diplomacy," Secretary Austin told reporters at the Pentagon.
"Mr. Putin can also do the right thing," he added.
- There is no reason for this situation to escalate into conflict. He can choose to de-escalate it. He could order his troops to withdraw, the US Secretary of Defense said.
