VIDEO | Osmani: I expect the EC report to confirm the good direction of Macedonia

Bujar Osmani, Minister of Foreign Affairs / Morning briefing

The European Commission reports on the progress of the EU candidate countries are published today. Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhei will present the report tonight. This includes an assessment of the progress of the reforms with conclusions and recommendations for the seven countries for which this report is made, and among them is RS Macedonia. We talked about this today in the "Morning Briefing" with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bujar Osmani.

- The content of the report is still under embargo, but we have an insight. This insight is less about the ambience that is so optional. It provides insight into the current year and provides recommendations. There is a new methodology according to which the ambassadors of the member states in the country also report. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in communication with them. We expect the report to be positive and assess that there is continuity in the progress and commitment to reform. I expect progress in terms of clusters by areas. I expect that the Commission will confirm the efforts we have made to resolve relations with Sofia. We are going through dangerous terrain and we know that without European credibility this region can enter dangerous waters. "I expect a note on the successful census and the democratic elections, which passed without incident, which is a sign of a serious democratic state and is very difficult to conduct in a multiethnic state," said Minister Osmani.

Regarding the relations with Bulgaria, which is an EU member and whose opinion has an impact on our European integration path, Osmani says that the talks continue.

- The unpredictability of Bulgaria causes us a problem. We made plans for the first, second and third elections in Bulgaria, but it is uncertain whether they will have a political government. "Now there is a slight delay in the talks, but in a few days there will be a meeting of the joint commission, followed by a meeting, fourth in a row, between the two Foreign Ministries, and if there is progress we will meet at ministerial level," Osmani said. says Osmani.

Regarding the news that 83 prisoners were given weapons on Election Day, which was reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office by the US Embassy in Skopje, Osmani said:

- The US administration is very sensitive to elections and human rights, especially since they have invested heavily in RS Macedonia. We do not take it for evil that they react preventively with good intentions, says Osmani.

It was unusual in this situation that the announcement happened in public, and usually goes through diplomatic channels.

- If it is in order to warn all participants in the election process, then it is good. It is better to prevent, says Osmani.
