The organizer of the last year's Grand Slam tournament, the US Open, has admitted that it seriously considered following in the footsteps of Wimbledon and banning the participation of Russian and Belarusian tennis players.

However, a last-minute decision was made not to suspend the players and will instead hold a charity event to raise funds for Ukraine on its national Independence Day, August 24.

With this decision, the organizer allowed the Russian Danil Medvedev to defend the title he won last year after he was better than Novak Djokovic in three sets in the final.
Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka has confirmed her performance at the US Open.

- Azarenka answered us quickly. She said that it is the choice of the players and I want to play - said the director of the US Open, Stacey Allister.

For now, it is not known whether the Russian and Belarusian tennis players will perform at the humanitarian event.
