Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said today that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is his "Christian sister" and that cultural identity plays an increasingly important role in European politics.
"She is not just my colleague, she is my Christian sister," Orbán told reporters on the sidelines of the TEHA economic forum in northern Italy, Reuters reported.
Sharing cultural roots did not play a big role in European politics before, but now we are approaching a new era, the Hungarian Prime Minister added.
Meloni and Orbán agree on a range of issues, including the need for stricter immigration policies and the defense of traditional family values against what they call the LGBT lobby, the agency said.
