A new shame, like the one in Afghanistan, would be a defeat for NATO, and European military forces remain only plans on paper. Ukraine is a new opportunity for NATO to show strength and authority, as Putin certainly knows, as it continues to concentrate its military forces around Ukraine.

The evacuation of the Americans from Ukraine indicates that something dangerous is being prepared. It is now reported that US troops are coming to Romania and Poland. Talks between the two senior officials, Anthony Blinken и Sergei Lavrov, have failed, and diplomacy has less and less chance of success. The Russians are increasingly piling up their troops in Belarus as well, which is a dangerous approach to NATO. The clashes are therefore increasingly likely, as threats of sanctions have not stopped Moscow.
