Dangerous rock above Lake Matka: CMC with an appeal to the citizens not to move on the spot

The situation with the dangerous rock of Matka in the long run is unsustainable - was today the general conclusion in the Crisis Management Center, at the first working meeting, which was scheduled and held under the leadership of the director Stojance Angelov, with representatives of institutions, experts and scientists from the country and some of the entities of the Crisis Management System.

The situation with the dangerous rock was reviewed at the meeting and the experts concluded that it has border stability and that it is necessary to take measures and activities to prevent and reduce the danger from the rock. Also, two groups of risks have been identified, first primary damage - from a possible fall, ie landslide and secondary damage - spill and shock wave from the water. Therefore, the citizens are preventively appealed not to move to the place under the rock on the shore on the right side of the river, ie lake bed, and that the risk zone will be marked.

At the working meeting, conclusions were made on the obligations that need to be taken for prevention. These are conclusions in the direction of general steps synchronized by several institutions in the country, and encouraged and globally coordinated by the CMC: first - project action program; second - preparation of technical documentation, project for remediation of the problem and finally, as third - public procurement for selection of a contractor for the remediation of the dangerous rock. In order to prevent it, measures will be taken by the authorities to restrict movement in the danger zone that would not hinder the operation of companies in the area and the movement of tourists outside the risk zone, according to the CMC.

The CMC will officially initiate the preparation of the first coordinated step of social action - preparation of a project action program.

Besides the CMC team, the meeting was attended by representatives of the State Inspectorate of Environment, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Institute of Civil Engineering, Geological Institute, IZIIS - Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology, Directorate for Protection and Rescue, Ministry of Interior and The Commission for Waters and Dams at the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning.
