The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights yesterday asked Russia to allow it access to Russia's war-torn regions, including Kursk, which has been the target of a surprise offensive by Kiev since last week.

"The UN Human Rights Office has sent a request to the Russian authorities to facilitate the Office's access to the war-affected areas of the Russian Federation, including the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions, as part of our human rights monitoring and evaluation mandate," said office spokeswoman Liz Trossell.

She added that the request was sent yesterday.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has already sent several requests for access to Russian-controlled Ukrainian territories and Russian territory.
