UN: Hezbollah fired a rocket at Israel from a position near the UN mission in Lebanon
One of the rockets fired by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah at northern Israel on Sunday was fired from near a position in the city of Haniyeh, which is manned by the international UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, said a spokeswoman for the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Candice. Ardiel, warning that such attacks endanger the personnel of the World Organization.
Haniyeh is located in the southern part of Lebanon, about 10 kilometers from the border with Israel. Ardiel said that later on Sunday, another explosion occurred near a UNIFIL position in Mais al-Jabal, on the Lebanese-Israeli border, but that the attack caused no injuries or damage.
Ardiel stressed that the attacks across the Blue Line, which represents the demarcation between Lebanon and Israel, where parts of the international border are disputed, constitute a violation of Resolution 1701 of the UN Security Council.
An Israeli army spokesman said yesterday that Hezbollah had been found to have launched rockets within 150 meters of the UN mission's position in the town of Haniyeh.
Hezbollah fired rockets and launched drones at Israeli military sites on Sunday, and Israeli jets hit about 40 launch sites in Lebanon.
