About 4.000 participants attended the dress rehearsal for the grand opening ceremony of Beijing Winter Olympics 2022 at the National Stadium in the Chinese capital, known as "Bird nest".

The games will be officially opened on February 4. Organizers cited cold weather and a pandemic for the reduced length of the ceremony, which is planned to last approximately 100 minutes.

Zhang Yimu has been re-appointed director general of the opening ceremony, after being responsible for the opening of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics.

He announced that the upcoming ceremony will be different from the one held 14 years ago, and the Olympic flame will be lit in an unprecedented way in the history of the Olympic Games.

The Chief Executive Officer of Olympic Broadcasting Services, Yannis Exarchosexpects the opening ceremony to be "just as impressive as the one in 2008". The Bird's Nest Stadium was built for the 2008 Summer Olympics, and Beijing will become the first city to host the Summer and Winter Games.

The Beijing 2022 WOG will not be open to spectators due to pandemic concerns, and tickets will not be available to the general public in China. Instead, certain groups will be invited to attend the competitions.
