With several events and tastings, Macedonia commemorates the World Crow Day, which is being held for the fourth time this year. Vranec is our biggest wine ambassador, and his tasting was held in the region, and will be tasted in Switzerland, Austria, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the USA.

- This year we set out with vranec to conquer the world - said the executive director of the "Wine from Macedonia" Association, Elena Mladenovska Jelenkovic.

Apart from Macedonia, the Vranec is also found in Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Kosovo.

- We from the Balkans are sending a message that we are walking together on the international stage - said Mladenovska Jelenkovic.

She emphasized that in order to enter the international scene, the Balkan Wine Network is very important, but in order to stand out from other wines, we need to build a system of geographical indicators.

- First it will be done for the Tikvesh wine region, and then for other regions - said Mladenovska Jelenkovic.

The president of the Management Board of "Wines of Macedonia" and the head of the largest winery "Tikvesh" Svetozar Janevski says that we are promoting vranec so that it gets its deserved place among the world's established wines.

– Science must be included in viticulture and winemaking. We must also fight for the market. We are still present in the markets with cheap wines. Also, we cannot be recognized in the world as a wine country if we do not observe the standards - Janevski said.

He believes that money should be set aside for international marketing, as well as for viticulture itself, and work should be done on developing premium wines.

Janevski reminded that several large wineries have closed. Now there are more small wineries and scattered growers.

- There are only about 30 winegrowers for whom this is a serious business, the others are small winegrowers and if they do not unite, they cannot overcome the current problems, and now their biggest problem is that there is no one to pick their grapes - he said Janevski.

Winemaking is the second export branch in terms of foreign currency inflow in agriculture, after tobacco. For the further development of viticulture and winemaking, the Minister of Agriculture Ljupco Nikolovski announced a new way of subsidizing.
