O'Flaherty called on the Council of Europe and its member states to mark July 11 every year as the International Day of Remembrance and Remembrance of the 1995 Srebrenica Genocide, the commissioner's office announced.

"International courts have determined that genocide was committed in Srebrenica in 1955. The widespread denial of genocide and the glorification of war criminals in the region of the former Yugoslavia threaten the rule of law, peace and social cohesion," the commissioner's statement said.
