The prosecutor's office is conducting procedures for all those on the "black list", but there is no outcome yet
After the State Department blacklisted former Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi and Judge Enver Bejeti on suspicion of accepting bribes to save the former director of the Security and Counterintelligence Administration Sasho Mijalkov from prison, the Republic's Public Prosecutor Ljupco Kocevski announced that he had filed a case against them, and claims that proceedings are also being conducted against other persons who have been placed on this list.
- Due to the seriousness of the allegations in the latest designation of persons on the "black list" of the USA, I used my powers and just yesterday formed a case for providing evidence in connection with the allegations of influence peddling. The case has been submitted to the competent public prosecutor's office - says Kocevski.
The prosecutor's office will investigate whether there is criminal responsibility for Mijalkov, who, according to what was announced by the American embassy in the country, gave the bribe.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Pance Toškovski, previously asked for patience from the Macedonian public, answering the question of whether Skopje also has the evidence that Washington has.
- It is well known to the public that I never speculate and I never reveal information to the public that is inappropriate within the framework of all the settings that are under the competence of the Ministry of the Interior. I would ask for patience from the Macedonian public in this part as well, for now - said Toškovski.
According to him, it is good that the institutions are finally waking up and starting to administer justice to the Macedonian public.
Apart from Grubi and Bedzeti, according to Kocevski, the Prosecutor's Office also conducted proceedings against Struga Mayor Ramiz Merko, the current Skopje Mayor Stevco Jakimovski, while the former Vice Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Kocho Angjushev had a case in the Prosecutor's Office for prosecuting organized crime and corruption that expired. due to the controversial changes to the Criminal Code.
- Since I have been the state prosecutor, since February, proceedings have been conducted and actions have been taken for these persons you mentioned. Regarding Kocho Angjushev, there was a case in the Prosecutor's Office for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption, but you know that with the amendments to the Criminal Code, many cases failed. Furthermore, everything we can take, we will take, but believe that the evidence is very difficult to secure - said the prosecutor.
So Kocevski mentioned that procedures are being conducted for Jakimovski, for Merko, and that a case has been filed against Grubi and Bejeti, but there are other officials on this list.
Last year, former Vice Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Kocho Angjushev, businessman Orce Kamchev, businessman Sergey Samsonenko and Merko were appointed. Former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and Mijalkov were already on this list.
This year, the former special public prosecutor Katica Janeva and the current mayor of Karposh Municipality, Stevco Jakimovski, were on the American "black list".
The day before yesterday, American Ambassador Angela Ageler called on the Macedonian institutions to take measures. She was determined that the evidence is here, in the Macedonian institutions, and if Washington managed to provide it, the Macedonian institutions can too.
- We do not have to provide evidence or information to the local institutions. The evidence is available. If we can find them, so can the Macedonian institutions. You have the Financial Police, Financial Intelligence, the Prosecutor's Office, you have judges and I think people in this country want to see results. We cannot control what the authorities will do. But we expect that there will be steps in that direction - said Ageler.
Grubi and Bezhetti were listed for involvement in "significant corruption", specifically for accepting bribes in connection with trials related to Mijalkov.
In addition to Gruby and Bejetti, the latest expansion of the American "blacklist" includes members of their immediate families.
At the briefing organized by the Prosecutor's Office with the journalists, the prosecutors said that they cannot conduct proceedings for every statement made by politicians and that it is not the competence of the Prosecutor's Office alone to react to a voice heard. From there, they pointed out that the judicial police should also react first.
