The prosecution is demanding six years in prison for Italian Vice Prime Minister Salvini
The prosecutor's office in Palermo today demanded six years in prison for the Italian Minister of Infrastructure and Deputy Prime Minister, as well as the leader of the League party, Matteo Salvini, because he did not allow a boat with migrants to enter Italian territory.
Five years ago, when he was Minister of the Interior, Salvini did not allow a ship of the Spanish non-governmental organization "Open Arms" with 147 migrants to anchor on the Italian island of Lampedusa.
Today, Salvini told the court that if necessary, he will repeat the procedures from several years ago. He stressed that his decision was in line with strict measures against migrants and humanitarian organizations rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean.
Salvini stressed that he is proud to have protected Italy's borders.
