A French edition with essays by Goran Stefanovski has been published

On the initiative of the Parisian institution "House of Europe and the Orient" (Maison D'Europe et d'Orient), and with the support of the French National Center for the Book, the Macedonian Ministry of Culture and the "Christ Church" University of Canterbury, the French publisher " For a moment" (L'espace d'un instant) published a selection of eleven essays by the Macedonian writer Goran Stefanovski with the title "Praise of the reverse" (Éloge du contraire).

The organizer of the selection and the author of the foreword is university professor Ivan Dodovski, and the translation into French was made by Marija Bezhanovska. The edition also contains a special review about Goran Stefanovski by university professor Frosa Pejoska-Bushero.

As Ivan Dodovski announces in the book's foreword, "this French edition is unique, as it contains selected essay texts (mostly in the form of a sermon or public presentation) published separately, in the last two decades of Goran Stefanovski's life."

It is a period when he turns to thinking about the European civilization space from the perspective of his previous creative experience in the Macedonian, Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav context.

- The world of ideas from Goran Stefanovski's plays", points out Ivan Dodovski in the preface, "is inevitably present in his essays", which were not previously published in a single book. "Some of them are 'convenience speeches', although there is nothing of the cliché of convenience in them... The audience to which these addresses are addressed is mainly Western European.

Exceptions are the accessible sermon 'Our Story', delivered in Skopje on the occasion of Goran Stefanovski's admission as a corresponding member of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the essay 'Praise of the Reversal', which is a kind of testamentary text written against the backdrop of dramatic political turmoil and internal social conflicts in Macedonia in 2015 - explains Dodovski.

(The text was published in "Cultural Press" No. 164, in the print edition of the newspaper "Free Press" on January 28-29, 2023)
