The new Minister of Solidarity in the French Government, Damien Abad, is accused by two women of sexual violence that was committed ten years ago. He vehemently denied the attacks, saying they were "impossible" to carry out because of his disability.

The government of has just been announced Elizabeth Bourne and a few hours after taking over as Minister of Solidarity, Damien Abad was charged by two women with sexual violence, allegedly committed in 2010 and 2011. These accusations were revealed by the internet portal Mediapart, over the past weekend.

In the article, it is revealed the first testimony, to a woman who filed charges against Damien Abad in 2017: the investigation has since been closed and the appeal dismissed. According to her statement, the politician with whom she had an affair repeatedly harassed her with messages and forced her to unwanted sexual acts, during the sexual intercourse, to which she initially agreed.

The second testimony is of a woman who has not filed a complaint to date and who accuses the politician of having sex with her at the end of a dinner she does not fully remember. After having dinner and drinking with Damien Abad, she believes she "may have been on drugs". This testimony was sent to the Observatory for Sexist and Sexual Violence in Politics, and the body states that at the end of the week it sent a letter to the public prosecutor about the accusation.

The new Minister of Solidarity sent a statement to the media in which he "vehemently disputes" the allegations for which he is accused.

"I deny that I have committed any form of coercion against any woman. Finally, I challenge any misuse of power related to the functions I perform. "The sexual relationships I have had throughout my life have always been mutually approved," writes Damien Abad.

First of all, the politician, who from birth is affected by a congenital disease, arthrogryposis, which is a significant motor disability and impedes the mobility of his four limbs, considers the facts with which he is accused "impossible".

"These accusations refer to actions or gestures that are simply impossible for me because of my disability. […] I am limited today to specify that, in my situation, sexual intercourse can occur only with the help and goodwill of my partner. That it is not possible for me to impose this or that practice, this or that gesture. "As for the reported remarks that insinuate that I could have taken drugs, then transported, undressed and raped an unconscious woman, they are simply unthinkable and miserable," the minister further specified.

The Prime Minister Elizabeth Bourne assured that she was "not aware" of the new charges discovered this weekend.

"I obviously did not know. I will be very clear on these topics, there can be no impunity, we must continue to act so that women who are victims of assault or harassment can file a complaint. "I have no more evidence that the case has been closed without further action," she said, adding that "if there are new elements, justice will be served again, and we will draw all the consequences of this decision."
