New Zealand launches campaign to comfort heartbroken youth

New Zealand has launched a campaign to help the country's young people get over painful break-ups, encouraging the heartbroken to come to terms with it and block their ex-partners on social media.

The government's Love Better campaign offers advice and support when love ends, and will be featured in a podcast and on platforms such as Instagram.

“Breakups hurt… but you have to turn the page forever. Take responsibility for your feelings," says a soothing voice in the campaign video.

An unnamed young man said he blocked his ex-girlfriend on social media because he couldn't sleep at night and things were getting weird and out of control.

The authorities of New Zealand announced that they will allocate 6,4 million New Zealand dollars (3,7 million euros) for the three-year campaign.

"We know that breaking up love relationships is painful. We want to support our young people and let them know that there is a way out", said an unnamed representative of the authorities.

The campaign allows young people to share their stories and thus help their peers who may be going through similar experiences.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has reported that New Zealand has one of the highest suicide rates among developed countries.
