On the last day of July, the Croatian Institute for Pension Insurance registered 1,75 million insured persons, which is about six percent more than the same day last year. Compared to the same period last year, the largest increase in the number of employees was in construction (12.500), trade (7.500), hotels and restaurants (6.500) and health and social protection (6.000).

The last time Croatia had more employees was in 1991 – the pension institute then recorded 1,84 million insured persons.

Croatia, as a socialist republic in Yugoslavia, had the highest number of employees in history in 1988. Then, at the end of the year, the statisticians of the pension institute recorded exactly 2.032.016 employees who paid a pension into the budget, Danica.hr reported.
