A new problem: Albanians from southern Serbia are also looking for their own community of municipalities
The Albanians who live in the three municipalities in the south of Serbia, Preševo, Bujanovac and Medvedža, are announcing large protests in March, writes Sarajevo's "Oslobogjeni".
The main request of the Albanians there is to form a community of Albanian municipalities following the example of the announced community of Serbian municipalities from the north of Kosovo. Accusing that they are discriminated against, they use the fact that 20 representatives of between 80 and 140 Serbs who live there are provided seats in the Kosovo parliament, while XNUMX Albanians in Serbia have only one representative in the Serbian parliament.
- Albanians in Preševska Dolina are discriminated in all spheres. We want reciprocity. We are not asking for anything more than what the Serbs in Kosovo are asking for - said Shaip Kamberi, the only Albanian in the Serbian Parliament.
For such a situation, they blame the authorities in Belgrade, but also the European institutions in Brussels, which they claim were not at all interested in dealing with this issue.
After several years of prolonging the resolution of this issue, the adviser in the US State Department, Derek Schole, and the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, indicated these days that it is time for Kosovo to form a community of municipalities with a Serbian majority and that this is a legally binding international obligation.
