Italians will no longer be required to wear masks on public transport, the Ministry of Health has announced.

The announcement states that the requirement to wear masks on trains, buses and ferries, which expires today, will not be renewed. Masks remain mandatory only for hospitals and nursing homes.

Italy is one of the countries that was hardest hit by the coronavirus. Covid-related deaths there have surpassed 177.000 since the pandemic began in 2020.
