By the end of 2026, citizens will drive along the new Kichevo-Ohrid highway, says Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikolovski.

In an interview with the weekly Focus, he emphasizes that there are numerous problems for the construction of the highway, because it is a matter of land that does not correspond to the classic geological standards for the construction of a highway, but as he says, he will not tire the public with the problems he faces. The Ministry.

- There are numerous problems, but I said that I will not tire the public with problems, because the public is tired of excuses, but what I can say is that we will keep our word and by the end of 2026 you will have a functional Kichevo-Ohrid highway. Regarding slopes, we face several problems. It is an extremely difficult mountain terrain. We want to represent Macedonia as an agricultural country, but 80 percent are mountains when you see the map. And it is about land that does not meet the classic geological standards for highway construction, says Nikoloski.

Asked why geological research was not done when the route was designed, Nikoloski says mistakes were made in the design, as well as in the execution.

- That is the second problem. Many mistakes were made in the design, but mistakes were also made in the execution. I am now looking for the solutions and we will solve the problem.
