Netanyahu insists on destroying Hamas after the truce expires

Israel will continue its military campaign in Gaza to destroy Hamas after the current cease-fire agreement expires, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with German Welt TV, DPA reported.

The prime minister did not say how long the current truce could be extended.

- We agreed that the women and children, as well as the foreign hostages, should be released first, Netanyahu said in the interview. As soon as that happens, we will continue the attacks, he added.

Netanyahu stressed that "Israel will continue to do everything possible to spare the civilian population in the Gaza Strip as much as possible."

However, according to Hamas, almost 15 people have already been killed and around 36 injured in retaliatory Israeli bombings.
