The head of the European Commission says that Europe is not currently facing an immediate threat of war, but it must be prepared for it.

"The threat of war may not be imminent, but it is not impossible. We need to be ready and that starts with the urgent need to strengthen and transform the armed forces of the bloc's members," von der Leyen said at the European Defense and Security Summit.

According to her, the EU must produce weapons of a new generation to "win on the battlefield".

"Europe should strive to develop and produce a new generation of operational capabilities to win battles and secure the material and technological superiority it may need in the future, and that means turbocharging our defense industrial capabilities over the next five years, it is "the task of the moment", von der Leyen said.
