Several people died in a fire in a hospital in Tivoli, about 200 patients were evacuated

At least three people died in a fire in a hospital near Rome that happened late last night, the fire brigade of Rome announced this morning, as reported by DPA.

The fire broke out around 23 p.m. at the San Giovanni Evangelista hospital in Tivoli, just outside Rome, the fire brigade said. During the extinguishing of the fire, a fourth body was found, Italian media reported. It is not clear if the person had already died before the fire.

Emergency services were able to extinguish the fire during the night.

About 200 patients, including children, were transferred from the hospital in the eastern part of Rome to various hospitals in the Italian capital. They were distributed according to their health status.

The cause of the fire is initially unclear. According to initial information, the fire broke out on the second floor of the hospital. The flames reportedly spread quickly and reached the emergency department and intensive care unit.
