After the National Security Agency of Montenegro confirmed that it is checking the accuracy of information about a possible assassination of the president, Jakov Milatović says that he will continue to do his job and that he expects the competent authorities to do their job.

Milatovic said that it is not pleasant to receive such information.

"I will continue to do my job. I am completely steadfast when it comes to my part of the work, which concerns the citizens of Montenegro, a country without corruption, without crime, a member state of the European Union. My policy in this sense is very clear," Milatović told the public broadcasting service.

The Montenegrin Agency for National Security (ANB) said that it is checking whether the information that an assassination is being planned against the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, which it recently received through a source from abroad, is correct, and that it has informed his office and the Police Directorate. calls "Vijesti".

ANB has received information from related sources that the alleged main organizer is a retired senior former army intelligence officer in the region, and that the immediate perpetrator will be someone from Montenegro.

In the answers to the questions of "Vijesti" about the possible serious threats to the head of the state, the Police Administration and Milatović's cabinet confirmed the existence of such information, and the ANB did not react.

"The office of the President of Montenegro has been informed that the reliability of the information about a possible threat to the security of the President of the State Jakov Milatović is being investigated. We have received no further details. We have been informed that the competent authorities have taken into account the above and are processing it, and we expect additional information", replied Milatović's public relations office.

The organizer is said to be a "senior ex-army intelligence officer in the region." The police administration told "Vijesti" that "the safety of President Milatović is not at risk", but that the information about this possibility is being checked, not wanting to reveal what it is specifically about, "taking into account the nature of the information and the need for secrecy the data".

One of the interlocutors of "Vijesti", familiar with the information of the Montenegrin secret service, said that the information about the alleged planning of the murder of Milatović reached the ANB indirectly from two connected sources from two countries of the Western Balkans. Those sources allegedly announced that the alleged main organizer is a retired high-ranking ex-army intelligence officer in the region, and the immediate executor will be a person from Montenegro.

"The persons who provided the information are connected to the country's services from the region. Considering the way it was said that it was allegedly planned, I am not sure about the reliability of the data, but everything should be checked", says the interlocutor familiar with the information.

When asked who and what motive could be behind the assassination of Milatović, that source says that he does not know, except that one of the goals is "destabilization of the state".
