Labor force shortage in Albania fills with foreigners, primarily from the Philippines
In the ready-made production plants in Albania there are about 20.000 vacanciesBut no one is interested in work, so to fill the gap, this one industry employs foreigners, mainly from the Philippines.
- In recent years, this industry is facing great difficulties in staffing. Due to shortages, businesses are operating at reduced capacity. We employ foreigners from Asian countries, mainly from the Philippines, but that is not a solution, because they are only temporarily here. Their goal is to go to EU countries, said Gjergji Gjoka, president of the Association of Entrepreneurs.
On the other hand, he adds, our policy is not a policy to hire foreigners.
- When we opened this business in Albania, we did not think that we would hire foreigners, we thought that we would hire Albanians. Now Albanians are taking their bags and fleeing the country in the hope of a better future. In this context, we have no choice but to think to the maximum to use the current potential. "I do not see the future in the employment of foreigners, but in the quality and professional employment of Albanians," said Gjoka.
But, according to the media, emigration is not the only reason why entrepreneurs do not find workers in this sector.
- Low wages, long working hours and difficult conditions keep Albanians away from this industry, say the Albanian media.
