The ground is not resting in Greece - a strong earthquake tonight near Athens
An earthquake with a magnitude of about 5 on the Richter scale hit southern Greece tonight, and the epicenter is in the sea near the capital, Athens.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the earthquake occurred 71 kilometers south of Athens.
The quake, which originated at a depth of 31 kilometers, was felt as a moderately strong tremor in regions up to 200 kilometers away from the epicenter, such as the northwestern part of the island of Crete, according to initial reports.
The Greek Geodynamic Institute said the earthquake had a magnitude of 4,8, 39 kilometers from the island of Kythnos.
