Habits are difficult to "reconstruct": Both garbage collectors and cars are parked on the new bicycle path of Gologanov
The reconstruction of Metropolitan Teodosij Gologanov boulevard lasted for six months, and finally normal traffic has been re-established on it, and as announced, two new bicycle paths have been constructed. One passes in the middle of the pedestrian path on the way from the Club of Deputies to the intersection with Boulevard St. Kliment Ohridski, on which the old tiles are left, and the other is located on the roadway, next to the asphalted sidewalk and is separated from the lane for vehicles with protective posts, and ends abruptly after the gas station at AMSM.
What is interesting is that the large containers, the emptying of which can only be carried out by special vehicles that approach them from the roadway, are placed on the edge of the sidewalk, which is separated from the traffic lane by a bicycle path. This means that vehicles collecting garbage from the containers will have to park in a bicycle lane. It is not clear if anyone even thought about this problem when the reconstruction project was being prepared, but again nothing has been solved with the oversized waste containers.
The large containers were procured during the term of Petre Shilegov and due to their specific way of emptying, they had to be placed at the very end of the sidewalk, next to the street, so they are still today along the entire boulevard of Partisan squads on the bicycle paths. At one time, the then city management claimed that it was only a temporary solution, and a bicycle path was drawn around the containers with yellow stripes, which in turn was on the area intended for pedestrians. On Gologanov, on the other hand, the containers are not on the bicycle path, but therefore the garbage collection vehicles will stop on it.
Cyclists, on the other hand, point to another problem with the new cycle path, which is that the protective posts are placed at too great a distance that allows cars to be parked on it, an opportunity that is already being used by reckless drivers. And not only on the bicycle path, but there are still vehicles parked on the sidewalk, which also pass through the widely placed posts.
The new bicycle lane was immediately converted into a free parking space by the creative car drivers. Taking into account the previous experiences with the existing bicycle lanes in the city (St. Kliment Ohridski boulevard, Centar, Moskovska street, Taftalidze, Boris Sarafov street, Gjorce Petrov and others), which due to the large space between two protective seats allow oblique parking of vehicles on the bicycle lane tape, it is evident that the authorities do not take into account the bad/dysfunctional practices of the past and repeat them - they point out from "Na tocak".
From there, they claim that if this practice, established immediately after the new velo lane was put into use, is not eradicated at the beginning, the functionality, safety and reliability advocated by the mayor Danela Arsovska will be destroyed.
We appeal to the authorities to ensure its functionality and to enable the smooth movement of cyclists before marking this cycle section as completed by the City. Tolerating the parking of vehicles on the bicycle lane makes the City complicit in stimulating insecurity and uncertainty in bicycle traffic - say the cyclists.
