Ombudsman: The interruption of the issuance of personal documents is a violation of citizens' rights
The Ombudsman expresses concern regarding the re-suspension of the issuance of personal documents (ID cards, passports, driver's licenses and more) by the Ministry of Interior and believes that such a move will seriously affect the realization of many other rights of citizens. The ombudsman on his own initiative will investigate possible omissions in the work of the competent services in the Ministry of Interior, which would be the reason for the interruptions in the issuance of documents to citizens.
Considering that last year due to the pandemic and restrictive measures a large number of citizens did not renew their personal documents, and some could not renew them due to closed borders, the Ombudsman believes that the competent Ministry should have foreseen such a situation and consequently adjust operation.
- Changing the system or its upgrade in a period when it is expected that there is an increased influx of requests for issuance of documents is inappropriate and is a violation of citizens' rights, due to which the Ombudsman on his own initiative will investigate possible omissions in the work of The Ministry of Interior, which would be the reason for the interruptions in the issuance of documents to citizens. At the same time, the Ombudsman asks the Ministry of Interior, within the scope of its work, to investigate why the citizens ce put in such a situation and determine responsibility for possible omission of services, said in a statement from the Ombudsman.
