At least 50 people hospitalized after clashes between protesters and police in Yerevan
At least 50 people have been hospitalized after clashes between police and protesters close to the residence of Armenian Prime Minister Nikola Pashinyan in Yerevan, the Ministry of Health said.
The statement said that 34 police officers and 16 civilians were hospitalized and that one of the injured was in critical condition.
The press service of the Armenian police said that they are 11 people were detained and that criminal proceedings have been instituted.
Police used shock bombs against opposition officials who had previously walked around the city, headed to the Republic Square and approached the government building, and then went to Pashinjan's residence.
Opposition groups have been protesting throughout Armenia since April 25. The reason for the dissatisfaction is the recent statements of the Prime Minister about Nagorno Karabakh.
According to him, the international community calls on Yerevan to move the border on the issue of the status of an unrecognized republic and warns of the danger of non-recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Protesters say the government's policy threatens the country to lose its statehood and threatens the existence of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
