In a possible referendum on joining the European Union, 44 percent of the citizens of Serbia would vote for membership, while 42 percent of respondents declared that they were against membership, according to the results of the public opinion survey conducted by the Center for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA). ).

The survey conducted at the end of February and beginning of March also showed that 43 percent of respondents believe that Serbia will never become a member of the EU.

When asked what would be the ideal solution for Kosovo, 38 percent of respondents did not have an answer, and the same number of citizens stated that they did not know what the actual outcome of the ongoing negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina could be.

The survey shows that 30 percent of the citizens openly declare that they do not know what the European agreement on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina entails, while seven percent of them assessed that it is a step towards the final agreement.

According to the results, for the majority of citizens the French-German proposal is unacceptable, while 26 percent of respondents would accept the proposal, and 20 percent would accept the independence of Kosovo if a better position of the Serbs in Kosovo is ensured.

When asked about the strategic direction that Serbia should follow, 44 percent of the respondents declared that it should turn more towards the West, and 43 percent believe that Serbia should establish "stronger" ties with Russia. Citizens perceive Russia as the most important political (34 percent) and security (42 percent) partner of Serbia, while they see the EU as the most important economic partner (44 percent).
