On the threshold of winter, the autumn leaves are still lying on the sidewalks and paths throughout Skopje
While all those in charge of public hygiene claim that they are continuously completing these activities, Skopjes move with great care on the "cleaned" streets, fearing not to slip and injure themselves.
Uncollected, decayed and rotten leaves on the sidewalks and bicycle paths throughout Skopje make it difficult for both pedestrians and cyclists to move, especially where there are rows of trees along the boulevards. On the threshold of winter, the green areas are full of fallen yellowed leaves, although "Parks and Greenery" constantly informs that they collect them.
In the strict center of Skopje, especially on Makedonija street, you can often see how the street is cleaned with blowers, but it is not like that in other parts of the city.
The sidewalks along Partizanska are full of loose leaves, it's hard to walk, I'm constantly afraid of slipping and falling. They left the leaves like this instead of cleaning them while they were dry, which as far as I know is part of maintaining public hygiene. It is a shame that it is left like this - an elderly resident of the Taftalidze neighborhood reacted to our editorial office.
This situation was also confirmed by the Councilor of the City of Skopje, Nikola Panovski, who, in a guest appearance on one of the TV channels, indicated that the fallen leaves are a big problem for him as a cyclist.
As a cyclist, leaves bother me. I don't mind them when they are dry, but after the rains it is really slippery for both pedestrians and cyclists. There are none on the streets, but on the pedestrian and bicycle paths, especially on the Quay, near "Zhabarot" there is almost no driving, there the leaves are made like mud and it is very difficult to clean them now if they were not cleaned in time, Panovski said.
These days, the Municipality of Karposh informed that the municipal utilities during this period are continuously working to collect fallen leaves and waste in the parts of the municipality that are under the jurisdiction of the local self-government. As they say from there, in order to achieve a greater effect, their work is organized by the coordinators from the urban communities, who manage the activities through a defined plan and program.
The teams from PE "Parks and Greenery" joined the help of the hygienists from Karposh, who cleaned the leaves and garbage from the main thoroughfares in the territory of this municipality. Specifically, the surfaces of Partisan Detachments, Ilinden and Metropolitan Teodosij Gologanov boulevards were cleaned, and in the coming days the side streets will also be cleaned.
The inspection services of the Municipality are in daily contact and joint coordination with the representatives from the PE "Parks and Greenery" as well as with the municipal services for maintaining hygiene, in order to work together more effectively in the direction of maintaining a healthy environment - claim Karposh.
And from the company, in addition to other activities that they are currently carrying out, they constantly inform that leaves are being collected, from the areas in Karposh, Chair, Kapistec, in Butel and in the area of Kale and in many other locations throughout Skopje. But it is their responsibility to clean the green areas, not the pedestrian and bicycle paths.
The cleaning of the pedestrian and bicycle paths is under the responsibility of the PE "Communal Hygiene". Our company is only responsible for the green park and boulevard areas - they answered from "Parks and Greenery" to the question why the leaves fallen from the trees are not cleaned from the pedestrian paths along the streets and boulevards for which they are responsible.
"Communal hygiene" claims that the sidewalks are cleaned regularly.
The teams of PE "Communal Hygiene" carry out daily activities to maintain the hygiene of the boulevards and larger streets in all Skopje municipalities. Within these activities, according to the needs of the field and the weather conditions, manual and mechanical sweeping is carried out, as well as the removal of fallen leaves, with the aim - smooth flow of traffic and movement of pedestrians on public and traffic areas - said the company.
And while everyone brags that they regularly finish the work, the citizens move with great care along the "cleaned" streets, fearing not to slip, then fall and injure themselves. They are already used to the fact that in Skopje what the authorities say is rarely confirmed on the ground.
