After the delay, the Paralympian in Tokyo was allowed to compete, and then the judge determined that there was no valid reason for that.

Malaysian Paralympian Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli was left without a gold medal in athletics at the Tokyo Paralympics after being disqualified for failing to show up on time.

Zolkefli won the gold medal in the F20 category, but was then taken away because he was previously late for the competition.

International Paralympic Committee spokesman Craig Spence said Zolkefly and two other non-medal winners were late for the competition. At first, they were banned from participating, and after their protest, the organizers allowed them to compete.

- They were late, maybe they had a logical reason, so they were allowed to compete until the situation is assessed and all the reasons are considered - said Spence.

A statement from the World Para-Athletics Association said that the referee ruled after the match that there was no justifiable reason for the delay and that their disqualification complaints had been rejected. According to the new ranking, the gold medal was won by the Ukrainian Maxim Koval, and the silver was won by his compatriot Alexander Yarovy. The bronze medal went to the Greek Efstratios Nikolaidis.
