At the prom night in Richmond, a high school graduate and his father were killed, seven other people were wounded

Two people died and several were wounded in a shooting that happened yesterday in a park in Richmond, in the US state of Virginia, the police said.

After the shooting, two people were detained, one suspect was released because the police believe that he was not involved in the attack.

- The shooting broke out shortly after 17 p.m. local time on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, where the local graduation ceremonies were being held, Richmond Interim Police Chief Rick Edwards and other officials said.

The BBC reports that an 18-year-old high school student and his 36-year-old father were killed in the shooting.

One of the suspects is 19 years old, Edwards said, adding that "police believe the 19-year-old knew at least one of the victims."

"Is nothing sacred anymore," Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney asked at a press conference.

- The child should be able to go to prom and enjoy the success with friends and family. This shooting was a selfish act, Mayor Stoney said, the BBC reported.
