1241.- Icelandic writer and historian Sturulson Snori, author of the most extensive sagas about Norwegian kings, was assassinated in an assassination attempt involving his son-in-law Gisur Torvaldson. The assassination was ordered by Norwegian King Hakon VI Hakonson because Snorur was an obstacle to his plans, including the annexation of Iceland to Norway, which he succeeded in 1262.
