Seventy-five illegal migrants were caught on the coast in western Turkey

Seventy-five illegal migrants were caught in the town of Ayvalik in the western Turkish province of Balikesir while trying to cross to the Greek island of Lesbos, the state television TRT Haber reported late last night.

Turkish Coast Guard teams began an operation after spotting a suspicious group of people on the coast near Ayvalik.

Initially, the persons were taken to the Coast Guard Directorate on the Turkish island of Kunda, where they were given humanitarian assistance.

The detained migrants will be handed over to the Directorate of District Migration Management of Balikesir District, the television station said.
