A court has been established at the airport in Antalya - about 300 statements have been taken so far
In the court established within the airport in Antalya, 268 statements were taken in three months and one person was arrested.
Millions of tourists pass through the airport in Antalya every year, and it often happens that the police have to intervene when they identify people for whom a warrant has been issued.
Because of this, the authorities decided to turn part of the airport building into a courtroom. According to the Turkish media, the person or persons detained at the airport for whom a warrant has been issued are now brought before a judge in just a few minutes.
The court, which was established by the Ministry of Justice three months ago, covers an area of 100 square meters and consists of three departments: a waiting room, a prosecutor's meeting room and a hearing room.
Citizens and foreigners for whom a warrant has been issued are brought before the court when selling tickets or at the airport entrance.
The judges, who are connected to the judicial authorities from all over Turkey, take the statements of the detainees in a short period of time and decide on the trial. Court hearings end in a few minutes.
Those released by judges after a hearing can board a plane and go abroad, unless there is a travel ban against them. Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor in Antalya, Adnan Tabar, said that they decided on this step, taking into account the increased passenger traffic at the airport in Antalya.
-Before we opened this courtroom, when someone was arrested on a warrant at the airport in Antalya, they would be taken to the courtroom. That's how we wasted time, we delayed planes, passengers had to wait, miss flights and buy new tickets - explained Tabar and added that the court works from 8.30:20.30 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.
- Since the beginning of the work, 268 statements have been taken, and one person has been arrested - said Tabar, adding that the main prosecutor's office has appointed two prosecutors who work in the courtroom at the airport.
