At 87: Ari Kopelman, the former director of Chanel, has died
The American Ari Koppelman, former president and chief operating officer of the fashion company "Chanel", died today at the age of 87.
The sad news was announced by his daughter Jill Kargman on social networks.
"Because sadness is the price we pay for love, I fight a tsunami of tears because the love in our family is seismic.
I am heartbroken but thankful because my beloved father lived almost a year and a half after his pancreatic cancer diagnosis. We cherished the joy of every minute together and nothing was left unsaid.
My funny, loving and genial father adored his grandchildren and imbued us all with his infectious passion for everything in life – a delicious meal, a funny joke, a shared nugget of wisdom – his sparkling eyes, contagious spirit and witty wisdom will be cherished by all that they knew, especially from my mother, with whom he shared a 53-year love story. I am the luckiest person to have been born as their daughter and to have the greatest friends on planet earth.
I will miss you forever," she wrote on her Instagram profile.
The spokesperson of "Chanel" said that the cause of the businessman's death was pancreatic cancer.
Koppelman studied at Johns Hopkins and Columbia universities and is credited with developing the French luxury brand. He will also be remembered for the phrase "Retail is in the details, dear."
