Muhammad was the most popular boy's name in England and Wales in 2023, replacing Noah, which is now in second place, official figures released on Thursday showed. Muhammad has been in the top ten most popular names for newborn boys since 2016, and was in second place in 2022, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported.

Oliver has replaced George as the third most popular name, the BBC reports.

For girls, the three most popular names in 2023 are Olivia, Amelia and Isla, the same as last year.

Officials say the celebrity world has influenced the popularity of some names such as Reign and Saint, modeled after the Kardashian-Jenner family. The names of popular musicians often appear, such as the teenage star Billie Eilish.

Names worn by members of the royal family, such as Charles, George and Harry, are becoming less popular.
