Mutsunski: The membership of the countries of the Western Balkans in the EU is a geostrategic investment in peace

I firmly believe that the enlargement of the EU is one of the most successful peace projects on the European continent that contributes to building resilient societies, and it is clear that the membership of the countries of the Western Balkans in the Union represents the so-called geostrategic investment in the peace, stability and prosperity of the continent as a whole, emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mutsunski, in his address to the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the EU members and the countries of the Western Balkans, which was held within the framework of the European Council for foreign affairs.

In his address, Mutsunski emphasized the commitment of the new Government to accelerate the pace of reform achievements that lead to the achievement of the set goal - the country's membership in the EU as soon as possible.

In the context of current world events, Mutsunski emphasized that the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine is the most urgent and biggest challenge on the European continent, but also beyond.

According to him, this conflict has a great negative impact on the countries of the Western Balkans, which potentially opens a zone for possible destabilization of the region.

 - Our country maintains its principled position in relation to Ukraine, which it has taken since the first day of the beginning of the war, condemning the brutal aggression of Russia, as well as giving unequivocal support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, Mutsunski pointed out.

According to the head of Macedonian diplomacy, the country is fully compliant with the common foreign and security policy of the EU, including all restrictive measures introduced by the EU towards Russia, and at the same time provides political, humanitarian and military support to Ukraine.

As announced by the MFA, the meeting reiterated the mutual commitment to further support the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans into the EU, as a shared strategic goal and security guarantee.

Mutsunski will also attend an audience with the Luxembourg Grand Duke Henri, and at the invitation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Luxembourg, Xavier Bethel, and a working dinner with the ministers of foreign affairs from the EU members and the countries of the Western Balkans.

Tomorrow, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade will be in Brussels, where he will meet the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, and then he will have meetings with high-ranking representatives of the European Union.
