Vasil Garvanliev will represent our country at the Eurovision Song Contest and there is nothing disputable in that, decided today the Commission for Accountability of the Macedonian Radio and Television.

The Commission stated that the colors of the bulgarian flag in the video were just a perception, and citizenship is personal freedom.

"The public service broadcaster has no right to discredit anyone on the basis of religion, nationality or other affiliation and has the full freedom to appoint a representative singer regardless of their nationality. "Practice has shown that there are such cases in almost every Eurovision Song Contest." stated by MRT.

"According to the report of the working group, it is a different perception, due to which the work of art of Janeta Vangeli, which was in those two frames, caused an association of a flag of a foreign country. Following public reactions, the video was withdrawn and reworked. Regarding the second controversial moment, Garvanliev's statements that he had dual citizenship, the working group points out that this is part of an interview given more than a year ago that has now received publicity. According to the rules of the EBU - The Public Service has no right to discredit anyone on the basis of religious, national or other affiliation and that it has full freedom to appoint a representative singer regardless of his citizenship. "Practice has shown that there are such cases in almost every Eurovision Song Contest." pointed out by MRT.

They added that the eventual cancellation of the Eurovision Song Contest would cause financial and other implications for MRT and would drastically damage the reputation of both the Public Service and the state internationally.

"However, given all this, and especially the polarization in our society, the Commission proposes to seriously reconsider the participation of the Public Service in international cultural events in the future." said in an official statement.
