Although they still do not rule out some other variants, since the investigation has practically just started, unofficial Croatian media reports that the police suspect that the motive for placing and activating explosive devices in Rijeka is criminal, not political. That is, that the bombs were placed as a kind of pressure on the company that manages the Shopping Center.

Also unofficially, criminal investigators in Rijeka have been suspecting exactly that version for some time. Last night's arrest of two men who shortly before activated an explosive device in front of the Plodina tower in the Tower Center in Peqine was not accidental, but part of a police ambush.

Namely, after the first explosion on May 21 in front of Plodina in Vežica, the police made a plan for covert surveillance of some Plodina shopping centers in Rijeka. But last night, the attackers first activated an explosive device in Peqine, and then headed to another location, a few kilometers away, where they intended to plant a new device again in Kostrena. But literally when they planted the second bomb, they were arrested by the police.

Last night's explosion happened on the ramp where cars descend from the parking lot on the roof of the Tower shopping center, next to the recently renovated skyscraper that was bought a few years ago by the Plodyne company, to become their headquarters.

Since the plaster of the facade was not damaged, nor were any of the glass panels covering the skyscraper cracked, it can be concluded that it was not a high explosive, although the bomb reverberated quite loudly throughout the eastern area of Rijeka.

The shopping center in Kostrena, where the bombers were arrested, also belongs to Plodyne, as does the shopping center in Vežica, where an explosive device was planted a week earlier.
