Moscow considers the Ukrainian region of Kherson part of Russia
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Husnulin visited the Kherson region in southern Ukraine last night, declaring that she would take a valuable place in the Russian family.
The region around the port city will take "a valuable place in our Russian family," Husnulin said.
Russia introduced the Russian ruble as its official currency in the Ukrainian region on May 1, and a few days ago a Russian-installed local government announced plans to ask Moscow for the right to become part of the Russian Federation.
Pro-Russian Deputy Prime Minister Kirill Stremusov said there would be no referendum and no option for the region to become a republic. He justified the non-holding of the referendum by saying that the vote of the population of the Crimean peninsula held in 2014 was not internationally recognized.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian government is convinced that the Russification of the Kherson region will not succeed.
