From 2019 to 2023, Williams led Phoenix, which was stopped in the semifinals of the playoffs against Denver this season. It was after this elimination that Fenix decided to end the cooperation.
In 2022, Williams was the NBA Coach of the Year. Previously, he managed the New York Pelicans from 2010 to 2015, and was still on the coaching staff of Portland, Oklahoma and Philadelphia.
